Marihelen and Michael Pitts-Campbell from the Southern Oregon Kite Festival Committee talk with Community Organizer Scott Clapson about this awesome free event that brings people from all over the world to our beautiful coastal community every summer.
2015 Souther Oregon Kite Festival
Marihelen and Michael share how they became volunteers for the Kite Festival and how a group of local volunteers took over the festival a few years ago and turned it into a nonprofit organization.
The weekend kicks off on Friday, July 17th, with an indoor kite flying exhibition in the Brookings Harbor-High School gymnasium and then continues with two days of exhibition kite flying at the Port of Brookings-Harbor on Saturday and Sunday. Kids get to make kites and fly them, there’s great music to accompany the kite flying, and lots of beautiful huge kites. Definitely worth going to this awesome event.
