Dear Listener,
You are likely to recognize yourself in one of my stories. We writers take snapshots in our minds of personality traits and habits of our fellow human beings. This happened to me when I lived next door to a dear man in Jacksonville, Oregon. I could tell he was a clever chap, but he kept to himself most of the time. I sensed there was more to him than met the eye, and a story soon emerged in my mind. Here he is as Ralph.
Ralph didn’t think much of himself, he was shy and self-conscious around people because his shirts didn’t button at the front. He had accepted the fact that there wasn’t much he could do about it because it was in his genes. But then he decided he had to go on a diet to please his boss. Never in one moment did he believe that in his effort to become a slender man, he would find something much more precious.
