We live in a civilized, First World country. We were raised to believe that if you just work hard enough, you can accomplish anything, and there are safety nets our government has put in place for those who find themselves needing help. What a shock it’s been for many of us to discover those safety nets either have big holes, or aren’t there to begin with. We are each of us only one catastrophic illness, one horrific accident, or one disaster away from being homeless and on the street. This week Our Community host Candice Michel and Brookings CORE Response Executive Director Diana Cooper discuss the lack of safety nets, and how that failure impacts our most vulnerable community members, our elders.
