KCIW is pleased to present the fourth episode in the Story Time series Nine O’Clock Horses, written and read by Angela Ewing.
This episode continues the compelling story of growing up in England during and after the the Second World War. It’s based in part on Angela’s own family and her mother’s fight for sanity during the German bombing campaign and the threat of impending invasion.
This could have been our family going into the Anderson Air raid shelter. Please note the Gas masks – the boxes we carried with us everywhere just in case there was a gas attack from the Germans.
Smoke from factory chimneys that operated seven days a week, twenty four hours a day, turned the Monday morning lines of washing to a dirty grey.
