This edition of Building Bridges takes a look at some of the things that get in the way of good communication between us, Ideologies and Filters, and what may be necessary in order to have those “sticky conversations.” Join host Candice Michel and Brookings Mayor Jake Pieper as they continue to delve into what it takes to build those bridges.

I am truly impressed by this interview with both contributors. I’m left with the idea that in my “independent” thinking I deny myself even normal conversations with those who appear to me to represent a vastly different view. I think it’s fear. I know it’s been exacerbated by Donald Trump. But I live in this community, and I care about all the precious lives here. You and Jake showed a way through that fear. You both demonstrated kindness and maturity. Good talk. Healing.
Thank you, Karin. It’s our hope that these conversations will do exactly that, help show others how to navigate the work of building bridges, while we keep learning it ourselves!
Missed the radio show but the last two city council meetings PROVE this mayor IS NOT about building bridges. Ask 180+ residents in Dawson Tract
I hope everyone watched the city council meetings from 8-24-20 and 8-31-20
