Retired senior citizens are among our community’s greatest assets. Many generously volunteer their time to support the numerous local programs that make life better for everyone in our community.
In this edition of Community Organizer, Scott Clapson talks with Vicky McGuniness about Curry County’s participation in a national program to encourage and facilitate senior community volunteers. The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is a national volunteer registry created by the Older Americans Act of 1965 to support volunteer work for community service organizations. This awesome federal program tracks volunteer hours and helps build volunteer capacity with local organizations. Any person in the United States who is over 55 years old can register with a simple one page form.
Many of our local community service organizations benefit from the vitality and energy brought by RSVP volunteers.
Thank you to all seniors who have registered with RSVP. If you’re over 55 and haven’t registered, please consider doing so. Our community needs you.
