Oregon Poet Laureate Peter Sears

Oregon Poet Laureate Peter Sears

Did you know that we Oregonians have our very own poet laureate? Well, we do, and his name is Peter Sears. He normally divides his time between Corvallis and Portland, but he recently ventured south to Curry County to honor us with his presence and poetry at the Curry Public Library in Gold Beach.

Our senior arts and literature correspondent Angela Ewing reports …

It was an immense pleasure to meet our State’s Poet Laureate, Peter Sears at the Gold Beach Library. With sincerity and fervor, Peter read from his collection of free-verse poetry. He has served as Community Services coordinator for the Oregon Arts Commission and is director of the Oregon Literary Coalition. His poetry reveals his own life experience in humor and satire. His work has appeared in several national magazines such as Saturday Review, The New York Times, and many other literary magazines, and he is author of three full-length poetry collections.
