Amelia wasn’t sure she should be going back to England after so long, but she had a ticket from her daughter and of course, she had to use it. Things had changed in the village, but not the path to the bridge where she and Colin used to meet. When she sees the field of cowslips, the scented yellow flowers seem to beckon her to explore. Plodding through the wet grass to the field gate, she is totally unprepared for what she is about to discover.

She’s surprised when a lady gives her three new homes to list and life becomes a little easier financially, although John’s health is declining.

In the Algarve, Amelia finds the fish is always fresh, and she and John take advantage of the small cafes on the quayside that serve simple meals with the white wine Vinho Verde. While Amelia finds the beach life delightful, John has many reservations about living there on a permanent basis.

She learns about the maintenance when she travels to the manufacturing facility in Steckborn, Switzerland. Her sewing classes are always well attended, and the lingerie patterns she designs for her classes make money for the company.
