The long running movie-review podcast Not Quite Classic Theater has come to KCIW! Brookings native Jake Westbrook and cohost Casey Faris have a simple job. They’re just supposed to watch a movie and tell you about it. That’s all. The thing is, they tend to get carried away sometimes. These things can happen when you’re left to your own devices and large quantities of caffeine.
The Air Bud franchise has kind of lost the plot lately, don’t you think? I mean, they went from sports to puppies doing unrelated things, and now they’re singing. It’s just a mess. Listen in and you’ll see what we mean.

We all knew this was coming. Jake and Casey saw The Emoji Movie this week, and all those rumors you’ve heard are true. This movie is a painful experience; it does everything but leap off the screen and physically spit in your face. This film is an affront to mankind itself, and we as human beings should be ashamed that one of our own produced this. In short, it sucked. Plain and simple. Tune in and hear our full and complete misery-laden commentary.

We just can’t seem to get enough of obscure direct-to-VHS 90s films that can barely even be called films. They’re like little psychological profiles of directors who just didn’t care. This week we have a nonsensical plot about a wishing machine and an invisible dad. It’s very confusing. That’s all we’ll say on the subject.

This week, we get to learn a valuable lesson in financial responsibility from the 90s Disney classic Blank Check, specifically that you shouldn’t trust a 10 year old kid to spend a million dollars. It doesn’t end well and the FBI usually gets involved. Also, it helps if the kid isn’t annoyingly whiny.

This week on NQCT, Casey gets to relive his childhood as we take a look at the new Power Rangers film, because everything needs a gritty reboot. Jake’s not really into it though, so there’s some disagreements brewing. Anyway, it’s about what you’d expect from something called Power Rangers.

This week, the duo do what they do best; find weird films no one has ever heard of. This one has an invisible dog, yet somehow manages to be a yawn fest. If you have a healthy appreciation for awkward dialogue, wooden acting, and cheap direct-to-video quality, take a listen to “Abner the Invisible Dog“!

This week, the hit new superhero movie Wonder Woman is on the ol’ watchlist, and frankly, it’s not quite as hot as those OTHER critics claim. First of all, it’s basically DC’s version of Captain America and – well, you’ll see.
