Bruce Ellis spent his weekend enjoying the delights of live theater at the Chetco Playhouse, and he’s ready to bring listeners the latest information about upcoming activities and events in Brookings-Harbor, Curry County, and beyond.
Bruce begins with his regular weekly update on the local entertainment and music scene. The 101 Bar and Grill resumes its monthly comedy and steak night beginning June 19. The Chetco Brewing Company has a rotating lineup of live music by local artists throughout the month, and the Vista Pub features live jazz on Tuesday nights.
Bruce takes a moment to pay tribute to his father and fathers everywhere by reading “My Dad Was Superman,” an original poem. Entertainment abounds this Father’s Day weekend with the closing performances of Chicago at the Chetco Playhouse. Directed by local performer and playwright Jason Liddell, the final shows of this hit Broadway musical run June 16, 17, and 18. On June 17, the Brookings Public Art Committee will host a “Chalk Art in Stout Park Event”, providing free chalk for artists to draw on paths throughout the park.
Later this month, local author Alisa Green will host a talk on assisted living at the Chetco Community Public Library. The talk, which includes tips from her new book, The ABCs of Assisted Living, will take place June 22 in the library’s large meeting room. Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing. Bruce also reminds listeners to mark their calendars for this summer’s festival lineup, including the 7th Annual Pirates of the Pacific Festival during the second weekend of August, and the Wild Rivers Music Festival at Azalea Park on August 19.
This is a big weekend for KCIW! We’re hosting our official “on the air” celebration on Saturday from 2:00 – 5:00 PM. Everyone is invited. Come help us celebrate the culmination of almost four years or hard work by a group of dedicated community volunteers to create Brookings-Harbor’s own community radio station. There will door prizes and light refreshments. Meet our on-air personalities and find our how you can be part of the KCIW team!
Other upcoming events include a performance by the Piedmont Melody Makers in Pistol River, ballroom and line dancing lessons at the Chetco Grange, the continuation of Ellensburg Theater’s Friday Movie Nights… and much, much more!
So sit back and – as Bruce puts it – let your ears do the walking.
