Perspectives in Healthcare: Mental Health and Our Elders, Part 2

In Part Two of this special edition of Perspectives in Healthcare, Nanaymie Godfrey from Coos Health and Wellness talks with Scott Clapson about mental health and older adults in Coos and Curry counties.

Nanaymie and Scott discuss social isolation and elder suicide, the need for changing the systems, and ways we deliver mental health services to our aging adult populations. Nanaymie emphasizes the fact that solutions that work in urban areas like Portland often don’t work in places with a small, disbursed population like Curry County. To help identify the unique needs of Curry County she developed a Community Assessment Survey that you can download here or fill out on line:

  • Click HERE to download a printable survey form. Return it to Scott Clapson at the Chetco Activity Center, 550 Chetco Lane, in Brookings, or
  • Click HERE to complete the form on-line.

Let them know that you heard about this survey on KCIW.org by calling 541-469-6822.

You can join the conversation and learn more about elder mental health issues in Curry County by attending two upcoming meetings at the Chetco Activity Center. The first, on January 25, covers social isolation, and the second, on February 1, addresses elder suicide. These meetings are free of charge and open to the public. Both sessions are in the Chetco Activity Center Dining Room, upper parking lot (upstairs), 550 Chetco Lane (Behind Subway), Brookings, OR.
