Ocean Mist Power Hour: Fund the 4th and More with Hometown Hero Barbara Ciaramella

In this edition of the Ocean Mist Power Hour, host Misty Young interviews Barbara Ciaramella, the primary organizer of the Fourth of July Family Festival at the Port of Brookings Harbor.

Barbara shares what you can do to get involved in this fun family event designed for locals and visitors alike – a bit of everything for everyone! Ocean fun in the banana belt sun.

Planned activities on the kite field at the Port include a pancake breakfast, old fashioned fun and games like sack races for the kids, a great selection of local vendors, great live music, and, of course, the big fireworks show to celebrate our country!

In this inaugural Hometown Hero edition of the Ocean Mist Power Hour, Misty Young talks with true Hometown Hero Linda Schreiber about great resources for local, sustainable, nutritious food, the joys and woes of homeschooling, student scholarships, services available to seniors, and free shoes for anyone!

Linda was raised in southern California and is a graduate of Fresno State. She holds a business degree in computer science. She and her family have made their home in Brookings for a decade and a half and have made our town even better.

Linda Schreiber sees ways to serve and raises her hand and steps up with a loving heart and an energetic spirit. She credits her mother and grandmother with giving her a heart for service.

In this episode of the Ocean Mist Power Hour, host Misty Young shares the gripping story of the great summer storm of 1972 in which numerous boats capsized and sank and 13 people lost their lives. The rare “autumnal equinox” storm, came up suddenly, blasting winds of nearly 90 knots, cutting off communications, toppling trees and wreaking havoc for two hours before it vanished and a normal summer day resumed.
