In this edition of The Insider Report, Bruce Ellis shares the latest news on the Brookings-Harbor entertainment scene. The Rowdy Creek Fish Hatchery Steelhead Derby is taking place from February 22 through February 24. Two teams take turns fishing the Chetco and Smith Rivers as part of the hatchery’s annual major fundraiser, which supports and celebrates our area’s fantastic natural fisheries.

In this edition of The Insider Report, Bruce Ellis shares the latest news on the Brookings-Harbor entertainment scene. There will be a Fish Fry at the Events Center in Gold Beach on Saturday, February 17, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Served Cajun or regular style, this all-you-can-eat event includes coleslaw, baked beans, and homemade dessert. This annual fundraiser benefits the Cedar Valley North Bank Rural Fire Department.

Other upcoming events and activities include a Scott Perry CD release party at the 101 Bar and Grill on February 16, Laura Gibson in concert at the Pistol River Friendship Hall on February 17, ballroom dance classes at the Chetco Grange on February 25 … and much, much more!

The Chetco Pelican Players will present Ira Levin’s Deathtrap at the Chetco Playhouse beginning February 9. Deathtrap, a hair-raising two-act thriller, will run for three weekends, with performances scheduled for February 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, and 24 at 7:30 PM, with 2:00 PM matinees on February 11, 18, and 25.

Other upcoming events and activities include the Winter Art and Chocolate Festival at Kalmiopsis Elementary School on February 10 and 11; the Safe and Sober Quarter Craze Benefit Auction at Brookings-Harbor High School on February 10; a performance by Nordic Voices, an a cappella sextet from Norway, presented by the Brookings Harbor Friends of Music on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 3:00 PM … and much, much more!

For the next two weekends, the Brookings Harbor Community Theater will present the stage play Snow White and the Seven Dwarves at the Chetco Grange. This family-friendly play opens Friday, February 2, and will run for two weekends. Showtimes are February 2, 3, 9, and 10 at 7:00 PM, with 2:00 PM matinee performances on February 4 and 11.

January 12 is opening night for Lighthouse Repertory Theater’s rendition of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? This classic 1962 play by Edward Albee features performances by local actors Howard Patterson and Steven Scruggs. Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf runs for three weekends, with evening performances on Fridays and Saturdays.
